About Me

Hello I’m Sara Corning! I’ve been a speech language pathologist since 2015! I have a bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Houston as well as a Master of Arts degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Houston.

I’ve worked in public schools my whole career. I have experience working with children ages 2 through 18! I’ve worked with children with a variety of disorders in a variety of settings including self-contained, general education, and home settings.

Over my several years of practice in school districts, I have developed a passion for functional communication. The kind of communication needed for getting wants and needs met. The kind of communication we use everyday that is easy for some but can be so hard for others, especially for those who have communication struggles due to other diagnoses, such as Autism or Developmental Delay. I am dedicated to helping children improve their functional communication because I know how important it is and how rewarding it is to be able to communicate on a daily basis and participate in everyday activities without fear and with confidence.

I know this from seeing the smiles on my clients faces and the growth in their skills. But I also know this from personal experience! I was a speech client from 3 years of age until the eighth grade. Profound unilateral deafness (in my left ear) caused me to have a very severe articulation disorder. I couldn’t even say my own name! It was hard to go through life like that and when I finally mastered my articulation skills, I gained so much confidence and I felt like I could do and achieve anything I wanted.

That’s the feeling I want my clients to feel after working with me. I want to help others develop and master their communication skills so they can grow up and be whatever they want to be!

A little more about me: I am a mom to three wonderful boys. My personal hobbies include reading, running, playing drums, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
